As Catholics, we are encouraged to lead a life of prayer. Prayer can take many forms, including: the Holy Mass; the Holy Rosary; the Apostles Crede; the Our Father, the prayer Our Lord Jesus Christ asked us to pray; novenas; litanies; adoration; and many more.

There are many types of prayer we can engage in in our daily prayers, including: healing prayers; prayers of thanksgiving; prayers for the sick; prayers of petitions; prayers of intercessions; prayers of praise; etc.

Through prayer, our devotions reaffirm our total commitment to our Lord, Jesus Christ and to our Faith and Church.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18, we are encouraged to “pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

On this page, we will list prayers to help members with their prayer life.

PRAYERS

.

Anima Christi (Soul of Christ)

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Your Wounds hide me.
Do not allow me to be separated from You.
From Satan, our evil enemy, defend me.
In the hour of my death, call me,
And bid me come to You.
That with Your Saints and Your Angels, I may praise You forever and ever. Amen.

(Note: This prayer is often recited after receiving Holy Communion)

Armour of God

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.”

(Eph. 6:10-18)

Heavenly Father, I put on the armour of God with gratitude and praise. You have provided all that I need to stand in victory over satan and his kingdom. I confidently take the belt of truth. Thank you that satan cannot stand against the bold use of truth.

Thank you for the breastplate of righteousness. I wear that righteousness which is my faith in Jesus Christ. I know that satan must retreat before the righteousness of God.

You have provided me with the solid rock of peace. I claim the peace with God that is mine through justification. I desire the peace of God that touches my emotions and feelings through prayer and sanctification. (Philippians 4:6)

Eagerly Lord, I lift up the shield of faith against all the blazing arrows that satan fires at me. I know that You are my shield.

I recognize that my mind is a particular target of satan’s deceiving ways. Therefore I cover my mind with the powerful helmet of salvation.

With joy I lift the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. I choose to live in its truth and power. Enable me to use Your Word to defend myself from satan, and also to wield the sword well, to push satan back, to defeat him.

Thank you, dear Lord, for prayer, Help me to keep this armour well oiled with prayer.  All these petitions, I offer You through the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ

Magnificat

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has looked with favour on his humble servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed,
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear Him in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
He has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich He has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for He has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise He made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia

Memorarae

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to you do I come, before yoy I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Novena

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Virgin Mother of God, we fly to your protection and beg your intercession against the darkness and sin which ever more envelop the world and menace the Church. Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, gave you to us as our mother as He died on the Cross for our salvation. So too, in 1531, when darkness and sin beset us, He sent you, as Our Lady of Guadalupe, on Tepeyac to lead us to Him Who alone is our light and our salvation.

Through your apparitions on Tepeyac and your abiding presence with us on the miraculous mantle of your messenger, Saint Juan Diego, millions of souls converted to faith in your Divine Son. Through this novena and our consecration to you, we humbly implore your intercession for our daily conversion of life to Him and the conversion of millions more who do not yet believe in Him. In our homes and in our nation, lead us to Him Who alone wins the victory over sin and darkness in us and in the world.

Unite our hearts to your Immaculate Heart so that they may find their true and lasting home in the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Ever guide us along the pilgrimage of life to our eternal home with Him. So may our hearts, one with yours, always trust in God’s promise of salvation, in His never-failing mercy toward all who turn to Him with a humble and contrite heart. Through this novena and our consecration to you, O Virgin of Guadalupe, lead all souls in America and throughout the world to your Divine Son in Whose name we pray. Amen.

Our Father

Hail Mary

Prayer for the Canonization of Blessed Michael J McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender  of the widow and orphan, you called your priest,  Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Scriptural Rosary

The Rosary is a prayer very near and dear to our Blessed Mother! Our Lady stressed its importance for world peace, among other desired virtues,

Many people find themselves thinking about more mundane matters (like work, sports, relationships and such) rather than heavenly mysteries  when praying the Rosary. We have all been guilty of that from time to time!

The Scriptural Rosary will help you, bead by bead, in meditating on the wonderous events in the lives of our Lord and our Lady!

The idea is simple: when coming to each bead, read the short verse that accompanies it for inspiration. These verses come from the Bible.
